Now that we've observed the summer solstice, we're ready to jump into the joys of summer. Long days that stretch into night, strolling along a sidewalk after dinner – and ice cream for a treat! Here's a selection of noteworthy ice cream – or alternative – shops in and around Los Angeles to revive your childlike pleasure!
Awan | West Hollywood
Taking inspiration from Indonesia, Awan offers vegan ice cream with pure island style ingredients, like: coconut cream, coconut water and Balinese vanilla bean.
Fatamorgana Gelato | Beverly Hills & Studio City
Strictly speaking, this is gelato rather than ice cream. A very close cousin to ice cream, gelato is made from a custard base of milk, cream and sugar, except the ratios are little different and Gelato doesn't usually contain egg yolks. This Rome transplant is the real thing.

Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams | Various Locations
Ice cream with smooth texture, buttercream body and flavors inspired by a mix of art, history and pop culture from a James Beard Award recipient.
Mashti Malone’s Exotic Ice Creams | Hollywood & Westwood
Flavors you expect, like Rocky Road and Mocha Almond Fudge, along with exotic surprises like Persian Cucumber and Saffron Rosewater reflecting the flowers and spices of Iran.
McConnell’s Fine Ice Creams | Various Locations
Organic handmade ice cream with roots in the San Diego dairy industry.
Salt & Straw | Various Locations
A good selection of sophisticated ice cream! Splurge and get a fresh delicious waffle cone. The Honey Lavender is extra pretty.
Van Leeuwen | Various Locations
This ice cream is not just delicious – it's inventive. Dense imaginative flavors, tasty creamy texture, vegan or dairy, they have you covered. We love the Coffee Affogato.
