Painted on handmade textured cotton supports with homemade pigments extracted from plants, flowers and barks found in his parents’ home state of Puebla, these works by the Mexico City-based artist have a mystical quality, blending pre-hispanic imagery and processes with Mendoza's ideas and dreams.

Tótem premiered at the 2023 Berlin International Film Festival and is Mexico’s official entry for the Oscar’s Best International Feature Film category.
