Umar Rashid: The Kingdom of the Two Californias

A continuation of the artist’s Epoch of Totalitarianism series referencing the history of the Spanish Empire in the Californias. The artist portrays his fictional Frenglish conquerors of the 1800s with 21st century weaponry, muscle cars and superhuman powers, as they attempt to maintain a stronghold in the Americas. Also opening, Agata Słowak: SZTUKĄ DIABŁA TŁUKĄ and Kaifan Wang: One Piece.

Propelled by the theme of universal connection, Morton’s paintings seek to transcend the familiar, venturing into uncharted territory, where tangible and infinite meet. In this series, he uses a leaf blower to propel strings of paint — mixed with an elastic ingredient — across the canvas.
