This Week in LA: Dec. 4→10
In this Edition: While Miami Buzzes, LA Beckons with Dreams, Remnants, and Inner Worlds
Here’s the revised intro:
This week kicks off the U.S.’s largest art week in Miami, as collectors, curators, and art lovers descend on South Florida for Art Basel and its satellite fairs. But for those of you staying put in Los Angeles, there’s no shortage of exceptional exhibitions to explore right here at home.
This week’s selections navigate consciousness, perception, and the unseen forces that shape our inner worlds. At Anat Ebgi, a multigenerational group exhibition presents fragmented interpretations of the body, tracing the biological and societal forces that shape collective consciousness. David Zwirner presents new works by Zimbabwean artist Portia Zvavahera, whose paintings join dream worlds with lived experience through symbolic creatures and spiritual visions. Over at Southern Guild, curator Essence Harden assembles works exploring remnants and traces—fragments that persist after departure and hover between consciousness and reverie. Wilding Cran Gallery features Robert Gunderman’s large-scale canvases transforming overlooked moments in nature into meditations on life and transformation. At Ochi Gallery, Nevena Prijić discovers parallel worlds where bodies and galaxies entwine, suspended between microscope and telescope. And at Wonzimer in DTLA, Joshua AM Ross and Caleb Engstrom explore perception and material intimacy through drawings and furniture.
No plane ticket required—dive into this week’s selections below and chart your LA gallery course!
