This Week in LA: July 24→30
Summer Shows That Challenge How We See
Welcome back to LA Insider! We took a break to transition to a new publishing platform and strategically redesign our approach to bringing you the best of LA's cultural scene. We're excited to return with a fresh format and renewed focus on the exhibitions and experiences that define our city's creative landscape.
Summer in Los Angeles means longer days to explore the city's vibrant gallery scene, and this week we're drawn to the poetic power of seeing differently – from Jo Ann Callis's reimagined still lifes at ROSEGALLERY to Alex Turner's thermal imaging revelations of California's trees at Marshall Gallery. Whether you're escaping the heat by contemplating Barbara T. Smith's pioneering Xerox experiments at Marciano Art Foundation or exploring the rich Black artistic heritage of Altadena at CAAM, the city's galleries are offering fresh perspectives on familiar subjects. Add in a memorial retrospective of master photographer Sebastião Salgado's four-decade career at the Peter Fetterman Gallery and summer group shows brimming with diverse voices, and you have a week that celebrates both innovation and legacy. Time to see LA through new eyes...
